Hands down the best place we went to not only in Hakuba, but in Japan. Quaint family run place representing the best of all things Japanese. Great ambience. Helpful menu ... for us English speakers. Tremendous food. Marvelous service. Highly recommended.
Every meal is delicious and will visit again. We arrived at 6 pm in mid-January and told the shop that we could sit at the bar counter, so we were lucky enough to wait for only 30 minutes. We recommend booking in advance.
Worth the trip. Very friendly and Japanese...
Hand made soba, yummy salad and small dishes, delicious chicken wings. Reasonable prices. Definitely a must go!
I came to Hakuba by skiing and came to the store to eat slowly because of bad weather. As shown in the picture, it was lunch, but there was a handle keeper, so we had some alcohol. I recommend 10% soba noodles. Delicious soba on the royal road. The characteristic of this shop is that it is a good shop for left-handed and left-handed people, as the name suggests.
Make a reservation before you go. Seats are full with reservations. I couldn't make a reservation so I went 30 minutes before opening and it was safe. There were only two seats other than the reservation. There are few places where you can eat soba at night. Soba is delicious as such. The wings were also spicy and delicious.
The staff are very friendly and the food is amazing and they have a menu with a wide selection of meals.
One of the best Soba
Provides English menu with pictures. Every plate was very good and beautifully prepared. Kind staffs too.
Amazing food with polite staff. This is easily the best food in Hakuba. I wish I could go back already. I would say that the food is a japanese western twist.
Stopped here for lunch. Was very enjoyable.
saw this soba shop by chance, got in by luck. turns out their booked out but they had a gap of 1hr and they just sit us in. much appreciated. we went ahead to order a wagyu tataki to start and then the soba set with the tempura followed by the milk pudding with soba sauce to end. first up, the wagyu tataki was impeccable. just done nicely around medium served with daikon and house sauce. the in house handmade buckwheat soba was really smooth and the soup base was really yummy. tempura consist of green pepper, brinjal and a shrimp which was delicious as well. overall a really satisfying meal. will visit again if i come back to hakuba!
Really nice Japanese food! Soba, horse wasabi, fried tofu are delicious. Staff are super friendly, English okay! Highly recommend!
Visited three times during my study in Hakuba. Their handmade soba noodles are highly recommended, as is their tempura vegetables.
Perfect Japanese!
It was a very good shop if I stopped somehow on the way back from climbing.I happened to go to the last minute before opening, but there are already two groups of customers.Even after opening the store, I waited a little without being seated.Customers without appointments are the last in the third set. The rest was full of reservations.Everything I asked for was delicious.I went to such a good store after a long time.It was a really nice menu variation and atmosphere if you could drink.
If you are lucky, it's free depending on the time of day. The dishes using wild plants are eye-catching and delicious. The exterior looks like a Japanese private house, and it seems to be mistaken for a private house because it blends into the townscape. Foreign tourists often visit the store. There is a counter seat, and there is an izakaya atmosphere somewhere. There is a pamphlet introducing nearby shops for foreign tourists, and it is also fun to read if there is no resistance to English while waiting for cooking.None of them are specially delicious, and all have a high average value of deliciousness and a stable taste. The wild vegetable tempura wanted sake.
Great range of food, excellent service, good local wine
A very good lunch.
MUST try SOBA!
Great food and variety, needs booking
Awesome hand made soba joint! We had about 8 dishes of variety things, fish to salad, everything was great! Range of umeshu and sake was also good.
Oishii...
One of the best restaurants around the area. Make sure to make a booking as it is frequently full.
Enjoy 100% soba noodles and other natural ingredients.
Great tasting menu with a wide variety of soba and rice dishes. Unique japanese flavours with fresh produce. Order the Eggplant salad.

There were many customers, but a very calm spaceTen percent soba was very deliciousI was happy because I had a butterbur in the tempura 🀠Everything was delicious 😋💕
Amazing food and service.
Tasty Japanese delicacies for a ski town. Definitely need to book in advance if you don’t want to wait the 1-hour to get in; they sort of rush you through your meal as well - I’m guessing since there is such a long wait behind you - but if you don’t mind that, then give this place a go!
Nice food in authentic setting. Went there with my family for lunch during our recent visit to Hakuba valley. Based on the good reviews we gave it a try. Ordered some hot Soba noodles in soup. The food was nice and we especially enjoyed the atmosphere in what seemed to be a fairly local and traditional place. Big plus was the English menu, which made it easy to order. Staff was very attentive and friendly.
Came here for dinner one night and had to wait about 20 minutes. Staff were very friendly and prices were reasonable. Have both normal tables and chairs but also traditional Japanese floor seating. If its busy (seems like it usually is as we could not make a booking on the evening) you may not have a choice in seating. Food was very good and came out fairly quickly. Standout was the cold soba noodles with the dipping sauce and broth at the end. We also tried the tempura, karaage, cold tofu and scallops and were well satisfied for a meal for two people. The milk pudding with soba tea flavour was really nice and cheap too. Recommended.
Fantastic authentic Japanese cuisine
A soba restaurant I visited for a local hotel. It is an old-fashioned house style restaurant with a modern atmosphere with jazz music flowing in a beautiful store.I asked for a vegetable tempura called Aoi and two small bowls with a white sesame pudding and a mori soba. Soba was also delicious, but the pudding was quite delicious. It was thick and not too sweet and it tasted like it.Soba hot water is thick and has a proper flavor, and it is highly satisfied with drinking. This kind of store has a solid sense because it has a large sense of volume. I think that it will usually fill the stomach even in a bowl.
Located in trendy Hakuba, this restaurant is busy .mostly because there too many people and not enough restaurants. Wait was over an hour, for was ok, service nice.
The reviews are all correct! Every plate we had was mouth watering and delicious 😋
highly recommend. this place is awesome but the wait is long. arrive an hour before they open to line up if you don't have a reservation.
Hakuba's first soba cold noodles / hot noodles. It is said that the proportion of buckwheat in winter will be different, and we should eat 60% in summer. Although hot tempura buckwheat noodles are available, the cold noodles have a more mouthfeel, which improves the elasticity and hardness of the noodles. Would recommend more on the palate. Tempura kids love it. There is an English menu in the shop. Tang Yang's fried chicken is also delicious.
Great meal
Zen is a beautiful Japanese dining experience. The soba noodles are a real stand-out, and a speciality of the Hakuba region. We also had the octopus entree and the miso eggplant which were amazing. Look out for the crown symbol on the menu as these are the recommended dishes and drinks. It's worth booking-it can be a couple of nights before they have a free table.
Wonderful authentic Japanese food and atmosphere along with excellent service. The menu (available in English) includes a nice variety, though they are known for their soba noodles. We had the sashimi, miso eggplant and cold soba noodles with mixed tempura. Everything was delicious, the eggplant was the favorite. It’s quite busy and closes early for dinner, we were able to make same-day reservations, they were very responsive and accommodating.
Unique ambience and affordable. ãŠã™ã™ã‚度☆☆☆☆☆
It can be a restaurant where you can eat well, or a restaurant where you can enjoy alcohol. I have only used dinner, but I felt that the furniture and furnishings in the store were very stylish and atmospheric, and that I could eat calmly. The restaurant has a Japanese-style atmosphere, so I think it's mainly sake, shochu, and sour, and there are also wines with sparkling on the menu, which makes me very happy. Every year, I go to Hakuba several times for mountain climbing and snowboarding, so I would like to use it again.
Delicious. It is a shop that is loved by locals. ï¸Taste and atmosphere are the best ã‰â€¼ ï¸
I had a pure ten Zaru soba pure as in 100% pure soba, no wheat added. It was tasty filling and quite reasonable. I ate at a corner table viewing the beautiful snow capped Mountains of Hakuba. Definitely a keeper!
Zen is one of the most popular restaurants in hakuba. In the middle of the winter season you need to reserve at least one day before. Lunch is very good and not very expensive.
Great food. Child friendly.
Not bad. Decent standard ... tempura was quite good. Starters were quite nice. Soba is alright ... nothing really special imo. Drinks were very good though!
